"The Mistletoe"

Dangling from the ceiling
By a little piece of string
Hung a sprig of mistletoe
With all the promise it could bring

Although just only seven
Young John knew what to do
He ran quickly from beneath it
When approached by his Aunt Sue

And when she wasn't looking
Young John tore that plant right down
Then smiled as he watched it
Spiral quickly to the ground

Heather saw it lying there
And picked it off the floor
Then beamed as she thought about
The man whom she adored

For her it was the courage
To give Mark their first real kiss
And reveal her deepest feelings
In hopes they'd share a new found bliss

She found Mark at the window
Watching kids play in the snow
And when she opened up her heart to him
His face began to glow

As they kissed
The mistletoe was passed to cousin Dwight
Who had argued with his wife
But now believed that she was right

He asked for her forgiveness
And raised up that mistletoe
She answered with a smile
And a kiss both long and slow

The sprig was left upon a table
Then was snatched up by Aunt Sue
Who found young John
And gave to him the kiss so overdue
