“Obsession”
When a thought runs through my head
It can be a blessing or a curse
A blessing if a problem’s solved
But often it’s much worse
Thoughts or feelings from the blue
That sit and stew for days
Often leaving me confused
And in a blurry haze
They’re uninvited visitors
That just won’t go away
Always needing company
Most minutes of the day
Seldom when those feelings come
They ever take quick flight
Often mine arrive
With a suitcase in the night
They pretend they won’t be staying long
But that simply isn’t true
At first light their things arrive
Brought in by moving crew
Now sometimes it’s for the best
They drive me towards my goal
But often they just twist my mind
And suck the spirit from my soul
They rob the oxygen from my brain
So nothing else survives
Leaving all else dying
While it lives and breathes and thrives.
Sometimes I get to take control
And they leave without a trace
But it never seems to be too long
Before a new one takes its place
My comfort is the knowledge
And thank God, it can be said
At least I don’t hear voices
Coming from my head
